EU4 Not Launching on Windows 10 – Fixes and Tips
Game Not Launching and Crashing At Startup Fixes
Some EU 4 players are reporting that the game won’t launch or it crashes at launch. These are a few fixes and workarounds that will hopefully make the game run smoother for you.
- If you have Onedrive, disable it and see if that solves the issue.
The first thing that players need to do is disabling fullscreen optimizations. You can manage your steam library by clicking on Manage > browse Local Files > right-clicking Eu4.exe > Properties > Compatibility tab.
If the change is applied, the game will not crash at launch. The crash at the launch of the game can be solved by running the game in borderless fullscreen instead of Fullscreen.
There is a chance that the game will crash at launch if the game does not have admin rights. If you want to run the program as an administrator, go to the game’s install folder and click the Properties tab. The problem will be fixed if the change is applied and the game is launched.
If the above fixes failed to resolve the issue, then your anti-viruses/windows defenders might be blocking the game. You can either exclude the game’s install folder from it or disabling it. The not launching issue of Europa Universalis 4 will be fixed after verification of game files.
This version of Europa Universalis 4 is very unstable. The developers have to restart the game every time someone quits (even to the main menu) so they can test a new build of the game. This is not a bug; it’s a feature! They’re finding and fixing major bugs as fast as they can. This game has a team of active devs, we are assuming!
Some EU4 Emperor players are reporting that they the following errors when they launch the game.
Could Not Start the Paradox Launcher at C:\users\(username)\Appdata\Local\Paradox Interactive CreatFile C:\users\(username)\Appdata\Local\Paradox Interactive\bootstrapper-v2.exe: The system could not find the file specified
These particular EU4 errors are caused by the game’s broken launcher. This can be fixed by deleting the launcher. First, use the Control Panel to delete the “Paradox Launcher v2” if it’s there. Then navigate to the path mentioned below and delete the launcher directories.
- Delete every directory in Documents/paradox interactive/ that starts with launcher-v2
- Once you’ve done this, launch the game from Steam and it’ll automatically download and install the Launcher.
- Give the game’s exe admin rights, see under “Crash At Startup Fix” to see how to do it.
- For Linux users, delete the directories ~/.paradoxlauncher and “~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/” and the file “~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcherpath”.
- As for Mac users, delete the directory “~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive”
- This will fix these errors and you’ll be able to play the game.
If the above fixes did not work for you, you can contact the developers at their official pages to reach out. Thanks for dropping by and reading this guide on How to Fix UE4 Not launching for Windows 10.
