Try Fast Traveling
One of the safest ways a player can troubleshoot this glitch is to simply fast-travel to a nearby Floo Flame.
To fast travel, open the map by pressing M and travel to the nearest Floo Flame. Once you get teleported to the new location, the trail glitch should go away.

Try Loading a Previous Save Location
If fast traveling doesn’t work, the next step is to load a save location that was previously present. This can be tedious by you can always give it a go, since this has worked for a lot of players out there.

- Start the game from the checkpoint that was previously there

Restart or Abandon Current Quest

To abandon a quest, go into your quest tab and select the quest
- Select “Abandon Quest”.
- This will remove the quest from your active quest list
- This should hopefully remove the glitch as well if you have abandoned the same quest that was originally causing the issue.
Update Hogwarts Legacy
If nothing else has worked for you, my only solution would be to either verify the integrity of game files and/or update the game entirely. This has fixed the issue for a handful of players so be mindful of that.
- To check for updates, open your game launcher or platform and look for the “Updates” section.
- If there is an update available, download and install it.
- Once the update is installed, launch the game
