As per the recent news, the new Call of Duty Warzone 2 and The Modern Warfare 2 are set to release this year. These games will be headlining the Call of duty franchise in 2022 and hence we will not be seeing any new Call of Duty standalone AAA installment will not be here in 2023.
A recent tweet from the Roundhill Investments account on twitter stated that in the first time since 20 years, the Call of Duty franchise wont be following the annual release model.
The source Bloomberg with the Reporter Jason Schreier stated on a tweet that the contents of the article were leaked way early from the website’s Terminal Subscription Service.
According to a report from Bloomberg, this decision was taken because the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise, Vanguard, failed to meet the expectations both in popularity and sales. They also made it clear that the Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard had nothing to do with this decision.
But Activision is already filling this year with some unnamed titles. The Developer Treyarch is said to be working on the next entry and will be collaborating with Infinity Ward (Warzone 2) until the next Call of Duty title is totally ready. According to Bloomberg, Activision didn’t respond immediately to their comments.
Activision wants to give some amount of spotlight to the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Plus they are avoiding to force two major titles together as it might again create an issue with two of these titles competing so close to each other.
So what we think is, we will be seeing a new call of duty game in 2024 as Modern Warfare and Warzone 2 will be based on Current gen only. But by 2024, there might not be support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One anymore.
